Care Instruction
1 - Before you wear them:
Prior to wearing your shoes for the first time, you should treat or condition the leather. The type of leather will determine the treatment. Always treat/condition shoes 24 hours prior to wearing.
Mink oil application:
Use mink oil on all kind of leather. This will not only keep the leather soft, but will also help make it water-resistant and retain the dye of the leather. Do not use mink oil on suede or nubuck shoes, as this will ruin them.
Spray silicon application:
You can use a silicon spray on leather, suede or nubuck shoes. Choose a spray with less than 15% silicon content, to allow maximum ventilation and protection from the elements.
2 – To ensure longevity:
Clean your shoes regularly with a leather cleaner and soft cloth to remove any built-up surface dirt. Frequency and wear will determine the need for polish.
Leather shoes:
Use a paste or stain polish, applied with a soft cloth. This will last longer and provide a nicer finish. Buff with a soft polish brush to get a brilliant shine. Also remember to condition leather regularly to keep it soft and supple.
Suede/Nubuck shoes:
Brush shoes with a suede/nubuck brush from time to time to clean them.
Leather soles:
Protect these by having a cobbler apply an extra thin rubber sole to the bottom of your shoes.
This extra thin rubber sole can be replaced as worn and protect your leather soles.
3 - Additional suggestions:
Additional to the care of your shoes, is the wearing of your shoes. Stress from pulling shoes off improperly not only stretches the leather but destroys the leather linings due to friction.
- Always untie laces when putting on and taking off shoes. Don’t force your foot in.
- Always use a shoehorn for slip-on shoes. Don’t force your foot in but slide the heel in gently.
